Sofía is a student at the University of Florida who is double-majoring in political science and sustainability studies with minors in agricultural and natural resource law and economics. Driven by her passion to address the climate crisis, she aims to work on the environmental policies and economic strategies supporting Puerto Rico’s shift to renewable energy. Sofía successfully revived the Gainesville chapter of the Sunrise Movement, the leading student-led climate action organization in the U.S. She was also one of the founders of the Green New Deal for UF campaign. Currently, she interns at the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department, developing the county’s Climate Action Plan.
