Benjamin J. Trost
University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa
Environment
Benjamin studies freshwater science and environmental humanities at the University of Alabama. He combines data science, ecology, and sociopolitical approaches to examine environmental injustice in Alabama, his home State. His passion for research has led him to collaborate with the Black Warrior Riverkeeper on water quality advocacy projects, publish on the politics of plant conservation, and investigate histories of environmental racism in the South as a 2024-2025 Rachel Carson Council National Environmental Leadership Fellow. Ben loves to hike, (overly-confidently) identify plants, and with his newfound interest in creative writing, explore the connections between Southern history, queer identity, and the environment.
