Kylie is a rising senior at American University who is passionate about sustainable agriculture and food justice. She promotes food agency through running a community garden in Washington, D.C., teaching an urban gardening class at her university, and working as a classroom assistant for FreshfarmDC, an organization that teaches children gardening and cooking skills in public schools. She hopes to conduct community-based participatory research as an agroecologist, working with farmers to transition out of conventional farming practices and promote local food systems. For Kylie, gardening is a practice beyond the backyard that is rooted in community care and creating ecosystems where everyone can thrive.
