Environment
Lisa is an entomology major on a mission to promote sustainable agriculture and combat food insecurity using insects. She conducts research at Texas A&M on the black soldier fly, whose larvae consume food waste and are then fed to livestock. At the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, she described a new species of South African bee fly and revised their taxonomy, contributing to knowledge of global biodiversity. Lisa works with Howdy Farm, a sustainable garden, to reduce food insecurity in her community. She also trains students to collect and identify insects. In her free time, Lisa enjoys hiking, reading, and gardening.
