Nizhoni is an enrolled citizen of the Navajo Nation and studies biomedical sciences with minors in chemistry and Indigenous studies. She serves her local Native community as a STEM tutor, a peer mentor to first-year Native students, and the student coordinator of Native Women’s Circle. She is designing a summer camp for local Native children and working as the lab manager of an Indigenous-led research team. Last summer, she analyzed the impact of uranium mining on Navajo Nation soil. She plans to pursue a joint masters in public health and medical degree to address the health inequities afflicting Tribal populations, especially cancer disparities.
