Benjamin R. Yawakie, Zuni Tribe of the Zuni Reservation
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

Benjamin Yawakie is a citizen of the Pueblo of Zuni and a descendant from Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux, and White Bear First Nations. His Lakota name is Toka Owe Wanka Hokshila (Sees Enemy Tracks). Benjamin is pursuing a dual master’s degree at Humphrey School of Public Affairs (MPP) and at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. He has dedicated his time outside of academics to advancing the relations between the University of Minnesota and the 11 Tribal Nations in Minnesota as an intern for the newly created American Indian Tribal Nation Relations office. He has also been the co-chair for the Policy and Governance Subcommittee of the We Are Still Here Minnesota campaign seeking to advance narrative change regarding Tribal Nations and communities in Minnesota. He is also working with the University of Minnesota Duluth's Medical School in partnership with a Tribe in Minnesota to develop a cascade of care model for opioid use disorder.
