OKC GOOD Showcases Parks in Focus® in Oklahoma City

On Thursday, November 13, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art launched an exhibit of nature photographs taken by youth from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma, and Positive Tomorrows, who recently participated in Parks in Focus®—a program of the Udall Foundation that connects underserved youth to nature through photography.
In 2014, Parks in Focus® put digital cameras in the hands of more than 200 Oklahoma City youth (ages 8 to 15) and guided them on afterschool, weekend, and summer outings to local parks and natural areas including Martin Park, Myriad Botanical Gardens, Roman Nose State Park, and Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. The 42 photographs on display portray the adventures they had and the people, places, plants, and animals they met along the way.
“The Parks in Focus® experiences for Boys & Girls Club members were amazing, and we look forward to providing similar opportunities for more of our members in the future,” said Jane Sutter, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County. “Allowing our youth to experience nature through the lens of a camera was truly a transformational experience, and the wonderful photographs they took are visual reminders of their unleashed creativity.”
