Lisa Johnson-Billy

Lisa Johnson-Billy is serving her third term in the Chickasaw Nation legislature. Lisa was elected to six terms (term limits prevent more than six terms) in the Oklahoma House of Representatives prior to serving as a tribal legislator. Lisa was the first woman and Native American elected to serve in house district 42.
While serving in the Oklahoma legislature Lisa co-founded the Native American caucus and was elected as the first chairperson. She was appointed to serve as chair for the International & tribal affairs committee, Public Safety appropriations, Higher Education appropriations and assistant deputy whip. Lisa served her final two years as the floor leader. Lisa was also appointed to serve as chairman for the national legislative "Justice Performance Project," which created national policy. In 2013, Lisa was a selected as an Aspen/Rodel fellow.
As a state legislator, Lisa has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Legislator of the year from the Oklahoma Public Employee Association, the Oklahoma State Trooper Association and was recognized as a supporter of rural Oklahoma. She has also been honored with the Oklahoma Spirit Award, the American Indian Exposition Indian of the year, the Changing Winds Cultural Society Indian woman of the year, and was recognized for her work on female incarceration.
Lisa has been married for 26 years to Phillip, a veteran of the Air Force. They have three children and enjoy hunting, tribal activities and ministry outreach.
