Denis Udall
Denis Udall is an educational consultant. Most recently, he served as Director of Strategic Partnerships with the George Lucas Educational Foundation where he managed the strategic direction of its research agenda in civics education, mathematics, and interdisciplinary education. Prior to this, Denis was a Program Officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation where he managed strategy and grants, including improving the quality of curriculum and instructional materials, California education policy, and aligning K-12 and higher education standards and assessments. Denis has also worked as a Senior Program Officer at the Walter S. Johnson Foundation where he focused on connecting high school dropouts and adolescents transitioning out of foster care to post-secondary and workforce development opportunities.
Earlier in his career, Denis had a 10-year history with Outward Bound including helping to found Expeditionary Learning (now EL Education), a national school improvement network, and the New York City Outward Bound Center, Outward Bound’s first urban center. Denis is the founder of the North Oakland Community Charter School. He received an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The son of Stewart L. Udall, Denis is honored to serve on the Udall Foundation Board of Trustees, which he joined in May 2022.
