Parks in Focus® ventures to higher elevations in the summer to facilitate exciting day trips and multi-night camping excursions for groups of youth to explore northern Arizona’s diverse landscapes and gain a deeper appreciation of our Nation’s national parks and public lands.

Sites frequently visited during these programs include: Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon, and Wupatki National Monuments; Picture Canyon; Red Rock and Slide Rock State Parks; and several locations within Coconino National Forest. Students meet with park rangers at many of these sites to learn about the natural and cultural resources of the region as well as about career opportunities within our public lands system.

On these trips, students learn and practice new outdoor skills, go on progressively more challenging hikes, and advance their photography skills by participating in fun activities from the Parks in Focus® curriculum. Games, team-building exercises, and daily community circles help students bond and deepen their newfound friendships as they experience these incredible places together.

Our summer Parks in Focus® activities in Sedona & Flagstaff are made possible in part by our official nonprofit partner Western National Parks Association.
