The Stewart L. Udall Parks in Focus Program
Our Programs - Arizona
Each year, our flagship program introduces hundreds of youth from the Boys & Girls
Clubs of Tucson, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson, and other area youth organizations
to the natural wonders of the Sonoran Desert.
We lead a variety of afterschool activities,
weekend outings, and introductory camping trips throughout the year
to local natural
areas and learning centers such as Saguaro National Park, Chiricahua National Monument, Mt. Lemmon,
Tohono Chul Park, and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.
In the summer, our most engaged participants from the school year are invited to
attend one of our five-day camping trips to northern Arizona to visit such sites
as Wupatki, Tuzigoot, Walnut
Canyon, and Sunset Crater Volcano
National Monuments, where they learn about the importance of parks and public lands.

Grand Canyon in Focus
Parks in Focus® has been partnering with Grand Canyon National Park each summer
since 2009 to introduce youth from Boys & Girls Clubs and other youth organizations
throughout Arizona to the natural and cultural wonders of Grand Canyon. During each
six-day program, participants sharpen their photography skills and explore the park,
meeting with park rangers, artists, and professional photographers. They learn basic
outdoor skills and Leave No Trace practices; go on challenging hikes; float down
the Colorado River; learn about nature, our national parks, and careers in parks
and conservation; and take thousands of photographs of their adventures.
