Although interns come from a variety of academic disciplines and circumstances, alumni of the program
report that the skills and knowledge that were most useful to them in the Internship Program were:
- Research ability, particularly legal research
- Critical thinking and analysis
- Writing, especially a memo, précis, or white paper
- Knowledge of tribal government, nation-building, and Native American issues in general
- The ability to work well with other and be a team player
- Time management and organization
